Dr Daniel Nour, MBBS
Street Side Medics
Dr Daniel Nour is an accomplished medical doctor and the driving force behind Street Side Medics, a not-for-profit providing crucial mobile medical care to people experiencing homelessness.
Founded in 2020, this GP-led service operates across New South Wales with a dedicated team of volunteers, offering free general practice and allied health support to a vulnerable population often facing significant barriers to healthcare.
With 600 volunteers, and ten clinics across New South Wales, Street Side Medics has changed the lives of thousands of patients. It has treated many communicable and non-communicable illnesses, dealt with neglected medical needs, and detected conditions that would otherwise have gone unnoticed.
Daniel’s impactful work led to him being named the 2022 Young Australian of the Year, a testament to his selfless dedication and the tangible difference Street Side Medics makes.
His commitment and the rapid success of Street Side Medics highlight his innovative approach and profound dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable individuals.

Jane Martin BA (Hons), MPH, Hon Doc (Deakin)
Food for Health Alliance
Jane has worked in public health advocacy and policy since the mid-1980s covering the risk factors of tobacco, diet, weight and alcohol. She heads the Food for Health Alliance, a leading advocacy voice working to reduce diet-related disease nationally and healthy diet programs at Cancer Council Victoria. Her role incudes developing the strategic advocacy and policy research agenda for the programs as well as coordinating public education and advocacy campaigns on healthy weight and alcohol use.
Jane’s career has involved extensive engagement with policy and advocacy-oriented research to advance regulatory reform around tobacco, alcohol control and food policies. She is experienced in both researching and applying advocacy strategies to encourage governments to adopt evidence-informed public health policies.
Jane is a past Board Member of Sexual Health Victoria and past President of the Australia New Zealand Obesity Society (ANZOS). She has been recognised for her contribution to public health advocacy with an Honorary Doctorate by Deakin University and travelled on a Churchill Fellowship to study successful strategies for the adoption of policies to improve diets. In 2019 was honoured with the Public Health Association of Australia President’s Award.

Matt Hopcraft
Melbourne Dental School
With more than 30 years in the dental industry, Matt Hopcraft is a recognised leader and expert in dental public health and advocacy. He frequently provides media commentary on related issues.
Currently an Associate Professor in Professional Practice at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne Dental School, he previously served as the CEO of the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch and was the Director of Assessments and Examinations at the Australian Dental Council.
Matt holds degrees including a Bachelor of Dental Science, Master of Dental Science, and a PhD from the University of Melbourne, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Deakin University.
He has worked in the Army, private, public dental practices, and is a passionate advocate for measures to improve oral health in the community.
